Making sure that diarrhoea does not disrupt your surfing break

Keen surfers make a pilgrimage to places like Newquay in Cornwall every summer to catch some of Britain’s best waves and relax in the evenings with fellow enthusiasts. Sometimes the weather can let them down, which they can do nothing about, but if it is an upset stomach that interferes with a day’s surfing then it may be possible to remedy the situation. Surfing is an active sport and one that demands its participants are in good physical condition. People that compete in competitions around the world usually follow a strict exercise regime to make sure they are in the best shape possible in order to do themselves justice on the day.

No matter how fit you are though, it is always possible that diarrhoea may strike when least expected. Fortunately, capsules can be bought in any pharmacy that could see you out on the waves an hour after taking them. Waves come in all shapes and sizes and an experienced surfer treats each one with the respect it deserves. Over time, they become familiar with the effect that certain characteristics of a wave can have and learn how to deal with them. The best way to deal with a bad stomach is to try and avoid it in the first place of course and sticking to foods that you know do not normally cause you any problems is advisable when surfing in foreign countries. If the worst happens, drinking plenty of water will help to combat the resulting dehydration.
